Growing up as an only child\, her trips with her parents involved courthouses and cemeteries.\nWhile her own children were young\, she was asked to be the Family History Director in northcentral Ohio. Her research skills deepened\, and soon she was invited to speak at conferences and webinars around the United States.\nThe author of several Legacy QuickGuides on the Appalachian states\, she has also filmed as an instructor for Ancestry Academy and is a former researcher for Ancestry ProGenealogists. She was recognized for her work by being awarded the title of Fellow of the Ohio Genealogical Society in 2018\, as well as receiving the Laura G. Prescott Award for Exemplary Service in Genealogy.\n  \nRichard Hill\nRichard Hill was the first adoptee to identify his birth family through genetic genealogy DNA tests. To share what he learned with other adoptees and genealogists Richard created his first DNA-focused website in 2008.\nHis pioneering application of genetic genealogy was featured on the front page of The Wall Street Journal in 2009. Since then\, he has advised thousands of adoptees\, genealogists\, and others seeking to find lost relatives or confirm suspected relationships.\nToday\, his new DNA Favorites website is a one-stop resource for anyone interested in genetic genealogy. He is a popular speaker on DNA testing topics and continues to share news\, tips\, and DNA testing success stories on social media.\nRichard’s award-winning memoir is Finding Family: My Search for Roots and the Secrets in My DNA. It is available in print\, Kindle\, and audiobook formats on Amazon. SUMMARY:The Graham Brothers Tractors and Evansville
DESCRIPTION:Michael E. Keller\, author of the recently released book The Graham-Bradley Tractor: A History will present a program in the Browning Gallery at the Willard Library on Saturday\, June 10th\, at 1:00 p. m. \nAlthough this new farm tractor history deals primarily with the introduction of the iconic Graham-Bradley tractor 0f 1937\, Keller’s presentation will focus on the two Graham farm tractors designed and built in Evansville in 1915 and 1919. Keller’s offering will be enhanced by images of these tractors\, their introductions\, and merchandising. \nThe Graham brothers\, Joseph\, Robert\, and Ray\, were natives of Washington\, Indiana. Raised on their father’s farm\, the brothers first manufacturing endeavor–glass bottle manufacturing in Loogootee–was wildly successful. Following the turn of the century\, the brothers established a large plant in Evansville to meet ever increasing bottle demand. The trio’s subsequent manufacture of the hybrid “Graham Truck Builder\,” the Graham Brothers truck line\, and bodies for the Graham-Paige automobiles will be emphasized in Keller’s talk. The integral business relationship with William McCurdy and his various Hercules firms will also be explained. \nThe presentation will be followed by a question and answer session concerning the huge impact the various Graham brothers’ manufacturing enterprises had on the commerce\, the city\, and the people of Evansville. \nPersonally inscribed copies of the book will be available following Keller’s presentation. The M. T. Publishing Company\, Inc. of Evansville is the publisher of this third Graham history book.

The city’s complex history with race\, politics\, and the Ku Klux Klan during a time of great change for the city and nation will be covered. \nKelley Coures is an Evansville native who has served as the executive director of the Department of Metro Development for the City of Evansville since 2014. He received the Sadelle Berger Civil Rights Award from the Mayor’s Human Relations Commission for work in the LGBTQ community in 2011. Leadership Evansville presented him the Social Service award in 2012. \nThis presentation is given in honor of Historic Preservation Month. DESCRIPTION:Chances are you’ve never heard of Mother Jones\, but this is a story you’ll want to hear.  Born Mary Harris in Cork Co. Ireland\, she immigrated with her parents to Canada as a teen and then to the United States as an adult.  She lost her husband and four children in the Yellow Fever outbreak in Memphis in 1867.  She left Memphis and moved to Chicago\, opening her own dress shop which she then lost in the Great Chicago Fire.  Next\, she joined the Knights of Labor and became active in strike organization.  Her involvement in the labor movement continued to grow until she was labeled by one US Attorney as “The most dangerous woman in America.”  She was particularly passionate about protecting children.  On May 17th a plaque will be installed on the Greenway in her honor\, the first plaque honoring the labor movement to be installed in Indiana.  Come learn more about this strong\, fascinating woman who so influenced our country. \n  \nOur speaker is Steve Bottoms\, a labor history researcher as well as a former Gibson County Commissioner.  He worked for Whirlpool\, and at union coal mines in the 1970’s. \n  \nPresentation will be in the Browning Gallery at Willard Public Library. \n  \nThis presentation is a joint program of the Tri-State Genealogical Society and Willard Public Library
