In March 1957, the Evansville Redevelopment Commission served condemnation notices and evacuation orders to people living in houseboats and shacks along Pigeon Creek. The dwellings were removed and burned by mid-May of that year. These images document that project, which was dubbed “Operation Houseboat.”
