Church Index

The Churches Index is designed to lead researchers to genealogical information found in church records, such as baptisms, confirmations, marriages, and deaths. This is a valuable alternative source for information, since the state of Indiana did not officially begin keeping birth and death records until 1882, and there are no marriage applications for Vanderburgh County before 1882.

The index includes church names and minister names, and includes the churches of the Catholic Diocese. Discovering a church address could lead to knowledge of a family's church affiliation.

In addition to the records found in this index, Willard Library has many other church records on microfilm that are not indexed. Some of these records are in German. All of the records are available for viewing and copying.
